I Just Don’t Fucking Know Anymore

This whole thing with that Interview movie and North Korea, hacking, etc. is probably the high water mark for absurdity in 2014, and it could prove to be one of the most absurd events in recent memory, if my hunch is correct.

Obama recently came out, acting in his role as the leader of the country with the most powerful military in the world, to plead the case for Sony to release a low-brow comedy starring seth rogen and james franco, assumedly because the film, having been targeted by clandestine ‘terrorists’ who have yet to be named or even hinted at, now represents a vague ’cause,’ which for many americans means the worst kind of nationalistic, patriotic, ‘don’t tread on me’ macho posturing will come to the surface once again.

But, what really happened? The entire thing is an amusing episode. The ‘threats’, invoking 9/11, sound like exactly the kind of hyperbole one would employ if he or she were trying to mock Kim Jong Un and North Korea during the staging of an elaborate joke where they pretend to be North Korea and take the lulz all the way to the bank. That’s what I’m contending has gone on – one of the better trolls in history. Someone who likely never thought their jokes result in having the president make a speech in support of a stupid movie (is there nothing better for him to be dealing with at the moment).

So yeah, I don’t think North Korea, or anyone in North Korea, had anything at all to do with this. It just makes less sense than the alternative. If I’m right, hats off to the trolls who pulled it off.
